Emergency Locater
The Emergency Locater was design for a customer looking for a means to provide a product that would service hikers, skiers and others that were in remote locations and if needed could be located via satellite during emergencies.
Ordinary the locater acted as an ordinary flashlight however if the user found themselves in an emergency situation, a special seal can be broken and allow for transmission of an RF beacon.
Coast Guard satellites normally deployed for over water emergencies could detect these beacons identify the user and notify the proper agency of an emergency situation. This effort was completed by building a circuit that was embedded within an existing commercial flashlight. Technically the project was a success and proof of concept completed. Due to restrictions placed by various government agencies no further commercialization was performed.
