Our Projects

IFOG Test Bed

One of our most promising efforts to date is a fiber optic test bed that allows us to test fiber optic gyro systems.  This test bed was originally designed to test polymer based optical components developed for IFOG systems.  However standard IFOG's have been tested as well with measurable performance improvements.

We used FPGA technology to perform the processing needed for the IFOG algorithm used. Low noise electronics along side switching power regulation created a challenging design environment.

Significant effort was used to isolate the various noise sources from the low-signal levels required for detection. In particular, this type of design required optical noise limited performance.

The circuits employed Altera FPGA using AHDL modeling language to implement the algorithms. For a user friendly interface, we employed a LabView language base algorithm that performed serial communications, data display, and post data processing.

Currently, this system is being used at Draper Laboratories located at the MIT campus and at China Lake, Navel Weapons Center, California.
