Projects > Steel Phoenix
The Steel Phoenix project was designed to provide intelligence gathering on foreign laser systems. Both systems allowed for 360 degree monitoring of foreign systems as well as heading, position, and speed and direction of the monitoring platform and the targeted laser system. As stored is the time and type of target.
In order to come up with such a system our sponsors from SPAWARS, San Diego used our PackRat data collection system, GPS, electronic compass, four Raven sensors and custom serial communication hardware. This hardware along with the software developed by CACI created the heart of the system.
The Steel Phoenix would be mounted on a helicopter used for detection. Personnel would monitor real-time any laser based emissions. The type and location would be displayed and recorded for future evaluation. The Steel Phoenix was tested and flown on various platforms as shown. Deployment of this system is unknown and under the control of SPAWARS, San Diego.
