Warhead: Data Collector

The Warhead Data Collector was a demonstration effort to develop a data collection system that could replace the warhead section within a shoulder launched infrared missile. The data collected would include such things as guidance, gyro position, target energy, etc.

One important requirement was to have the warhead survive impact and the resulting fall to earth. 50 g’s would be expected in this environment. After recovery, a maximum of 8 Megabytes of data would be recoverable via a serial port.

The hardware was developed for the electronics and the mechanical housing. At which point the integrated system would be tested at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory.
